Erkin Koray is known as the man who brought rock music to Turkey. He played the first rock concert in the country in 1957, performing covers of Elvis and Fats Domino songs. In the 1970’s together with his band Yeralti Dörtlüsü, the Underground Quartet, Koray created sprawling psychedelic anthems in their communal house in Istanbul. The vocals tinged with regret, the guitars distorted with fuzz; Köprüden Geçti Gelin is archetypal of Koray’s sound.
